Christian media for Balkan Slavic people has its beginnings from the time of former Yugoslavia. Initiative came from Dr. Paul Freed. In his vision for Christian broadcasting in Europe, Eastern block countries were included as well. 1947 a meeting was held in Beatenberg, Switzerland, where strategy for radio broadcasting was developed. Former Yugoslavia was there represented by Dr. Josip Horak. The broadcasting was then possible only from the stations outside the country and it began via Trans World Radio in Monte Carlo. This was just the beginning of the pioneer ventures.
When record players became common in people's homes in 1970's, Mr. Rolf Wernersson, missionary from Sweden, recorded first Slovenian Christian record - Pridi domov. After that, by the turn of the following decade, Moody Science Films were synchronized by Branko Lovrec. After the fall of communism Christian broadcasting became possible from local radio station within the country. Short messages are weekly heard in all parts of former Yugoslavia.
In the begining, every aspect of production was depending on foreign assistance. In 1982 the Lord called young couple Gvozdic into media ministry. Through Dr. Peter Kuzmic, a contact was made with Southern California College. Sidonija studied music and George Communication: Radio & TV. So, 1984 our country got its first educated people in this field.
First products
1986 George came in contact with Christian Media Production in Switzerland. This newly established media house needed Christian professionals for their productions. On the basis of mutual exchange of assistance Sidonija and George began working on Swiss and their national productions. This is how native productuons have start.
Just a year later, 1987 the Lord enabled us to establish and register a Christian Media Production and Distribution House in Slovenia under the name GOSPEL MEDIA, with headquarters residence in Ljubljana.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Gospel Media (GM) goal is to produce and distribute Christian audio/video materials and programs for Christians Centers, Schools, churches individuals and broadcast. The productions are meant to be used as a tool for reaching multitude of people who need to find the way back to God and his church.
This is a properly established and State-registered house with all rights and obligations as any other juristical organization. GM operates under membership board principle whose representatives are from Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia.
In the Swiss studio
The ministry produces suitable programs for evangelism, teaching, faith buildup, youth and children programs. Some productions are foreign translations and some our own projects. Each program is meant to be translated into four of former Yugoslavian languages, i.e. Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian and Macedonian. Projects are produced in broadcast quality and ready for airing or duplication.
With its service GM is remaining to cover the whole territory of former Yugoslavia and people in Diaspora. Every program incorporates either an invitation, challenge for contact, book offer or GM catalogue.

MEDIA PARTNERSHIP

GM maintain contacts, relationship and distribution among all Evangelicals everywhere where Southern Slavic people could be reached. This is possible since the programs are evangelistic in nature and they cover plain Bible truths.
GM seek and want to establish good relationship with other Christian production houses and producers whose programs could be translated and adapted to our culture and situation.
Very welcomed are all those who would like to join our prayer partners and so provide solid spiritual backup. The same way are appreciated those who are motivated to send their support. The challenge is great and opportunities are many.

EFFECTIVENESS

Cassette distribution and circulation was from the beginning, and is still, main way for spreading the Gospel. Request for videos was surprisingly strong. To meet demand was real struggle. Therefore, a decision was made to obtain a copying unit.
Promoting the programs is done by exhibition on conferences, at Christian centers, stores, catalogue mailing and magazine advertising. All Christian centers and bigger churches have a set of our material which is being used in various outreach activities. During the communism, broadcasting of GM programs in the country was not possible. Only after its fall radio, and a bit later, TV broadcasting began to open. Thanks to quality of GM programs adaptation for given broadcasting opportunity was easy. So far, there are ten local radio stations thorough Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia and four TV/cable stations which are broadcasting our material.
Distribution and broadcasting is backed up with follow-up work. The nearest local church from where a call or letter is coming is notified to organize a contact. GM ministry goal is to function as an extended hand of the church. Just looking at coming responses this goal is well achieved. The most precious encouragement came from south Hercegovina, a remote place far away from any church. Few people gather around Bible, prayer and GM teaching programs since they don't have a preacher or a leader.

GM programs have produced great breakthrough in proclaiming the Gospel, for this George received International NRB Award in 1989 and 1991 program Zvelicanje - Bozji dar (Salvation - God's Gift) had received International Silver Angel Award.
Naturally, civil war in the country had affected this ministry. Like a cold shower many problems had interrupted GM growth. New laws, erected borders, cost increase, devastated economy, etc. were enormous pressure.
PRESENT SITUATION

After changes in the whole Eastern Europe, new religious freedom is noticeable in all form of media and public life. Millions of people became very open for the Good News. God's timing for GM was perfect because the church is, right now, in need for such service. New freedom is being used for good and bad. Beside the traditional churches, Catholic and Orthodox, other religions and occult are very active. Without the help of God's Spirit GM work would be insignificant.

As of the beginning of 1991 in Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, true religious broadcasting is reality. Theoretically, broadcasting time devoted for religion should be proportionally divided among all denominations. Greatest chance for evangelicals to get on the air are Christian holidays such as: Christmas, Eastern, Pentecost, Reformation day, etc.
Consequently, GM need to get additional equipment for video recording and evaluation of taped material. It would improve our readiness and effectiveness. There is nothing else to wait upon. This is more than an opportunity, it is "THE GOLDEN CHANCE"!
